What does PBAOA do?

Advocacy is what we do. It’s the reason we at Pit Bull Advocates of America were put on this planet. It’s our purpose and the purpose of this organization.

We’re not a rescue. We’re not rescuers. We applaud rescuers. Daily. We don’t know how they do it day in and day out. We’ve been rescuers in the past, and it’s because of those experiencers that we realized that we’re advocates through and through. We feel blessed to get to touch their furry, physical evidence of the difference they make in the world.

A lot of people want us to rescue dogs. They want that furry, physical, touchable evidence that we’re working. It feels like we’re supposed to parade rescue dogs around in front of them to snuggle or we’re not really doing anything. Where’s the proof that advocacy really makes a difference?

Advocacy rescues their RIGHT to live – their RIGHT to eat and drink – their RIGHT to live wherever their family takes them – their RIGHT to act like a dog – their RIGHT to live free of fear and intimidation. And people have the RIGHT to live free of fear too. The media and the anti-movement have paralyzed millions of people with fear. PBAOA open minds of people who would never have considered owning a dog perceived as a pit bull and changes them into lifelong guardians and advocates! PBAOA assists in changing laws to allow brand new homes to dogs waiting for a family! PBAOA keeps dogs in their homes by offering support and resources through our Better Together program! Dogs who, without this help, would’ve been needing rescue…

Maybe we are rescuers. We simply use different tools and rescue in a different way. We can’t offer snuggles on dogs we’re advocating for in different cities and towns all over the country. But I can guarantee that because of our advocacy they’ll get to be snuggled by someone who won’t have to muzzle them to walk down the street anymore. Or worry about moving or losing their dog.

We are Changing Minds & Saving Lives. THAT’S what we do.

Can I surrender my dog to PBAOA?

No. PBAOA is an advocacy and resource organization. We are not a rescue. Please see the Rehoming/Surrendering page for information on surrendering.

How do I start a movement to repeal BSL in my community?

Breed-specific legislation is being overturned in states, cities and towns all across America and very little new laws are being put into place. This is happening because people just like YOU are stepping up and starting movements to change laws! Want to know how? Visit the Stop BSL page to get started.
